Jerry Saltz on the Death of the Gallery Show

Jerry Saltz on the Death of the Gallery Show

“Jerry Saltz on the Death of the Gallery Show. (Note: This is not about the end of the art world. It’s about how the gallery system as we used to know it is in the process of changing. Me? I think of this essay as a cry-havoc release-the-dogs-of-war call-to-arms – and not as complaint. I suspect I’m not writing anything all of us haven’t already considered ourselves.)http://vult.re/YJVndf

  1. Very nicely and compellingly written.

  2. being fairly new to the ‘art world’, I don’t feel the sense of nostalgia and loss he describes at its mutation (although I do appreciate the reading of it as a highschooly meritocracy). yay for democritization, on any level– and/but the concern about quality of dialogue I think goes beyond the art world–
